Labour MSP Andy Kerr’s embraces new role as Labour’s ‘storyteller’, pay freeze isn’t popular but the nightmare of unemployment is much worse for Scots

Dear All

In an ideal world politicians would give you everything you want and life would be lovely.

But it isn’t an ideal world, times are bad no worse than that very bad indeed.

The priority of the current Scottish Government is to protect as many people as possible by trying to save their jobs.

This means that there is a proposal on the table for a one year pay freeze on public sector workers earning over £21,000 per year.

Reality is simple and grim, there is a massive cut in the Scottish budget and money is ridiculously tight and will be for the next decade.

The Labour party wants to take power in Holyrood at the next election so they are claiming that the pay freeze amounts to ‘Tory Cuts’.

Propaganda on their part, in Labour controlled Glasgow alone, 4,000 people are getting the bullet; the Labour Party is not saving jobs.

And not providing solutions to where the money should be cut to prop up unsustainable wage rises.

People in work have to ‘bite the bullet’, the alternative for some is unemployment and if a third of people in work 4 weeks from defaulting on their bills, better to try and keep what you have got than lose it.

Holyrood has only limited leverages to manage the economy and it is now time that Scotland had full fiscal autonomy.

A Public sector pay freeze will save in the region of £300 million pounds and safeguard 10,000 jobs which in turn will protect other jobs in the local community as people have spending power to buy goods and services.

People know things are bad but the real shock will be when the public sector sheds jobs in local government flooding the employment market, already there are 5 people for every job in the UK.

Glasgow is one of the highest employment black spots in the UK.

Labour say they accept here has to be pay restraint, if they are accepting that concept then they just scaremongering to cause dissent, implying that money is there when it clearly isn’t.

Labour’s finance spokesman Andy Kerr who almost buried the Health service said:

“I accept that tough decisions will have to be made and, in particular, there will have to be pay restraint in the public sector, but it is not the Scottish Government’s job to implement Tory cuts for them”.

Should the Scottish Government spend money it doesn’t have?

Kerr isn’t bright.

He added:

“A Labour Government in Scotland would use this budget to provide low-paid workers with a living wage and take action to provide training and employment for young people.”

And lets us be clear, Glasgow introduced a living wage of £7 an hour but offloaded services to ALEOS where people didn’t get this rate.

Lib Dem MSP, Jeremy Purvis said:

“We support a public-sector pay freeze for those earning over £21,000 but we also believe the pay bill for those earning over £80,000 needs to be cut by 10%,”

Tory spokesman Derek Brownlee said:

“We would rather people were in work with a pay freeze than out of work with no freeze at all. The Scottish Government’s position is very welcome news, as Scottish Conservatives have been calling for a pay freeze in the public sector since January.”

Yet again it’s the Labour Party out of step, trying to promote an unsustainable dream with one ideology, secure power at any cost.

Pay freeze isn’t popular but it is the lesser evil because it protects jobs.

Dear Tris

Andy Kerr is the Labour 'King in Waiting', when the 'East Coast Weasel' Iain Gray steps down, Kerr will lead Scotland to ruin.

"He's got no bloody brains at all..."

True but good suits and a snappy dresser!
