Green Candidate, David Docherty throws his hat into the ring at Glasgow North East

Dear All

The Glasgow North East by-election gets another runner, the Scottish Greens have announced environmental campaigner David Doherty will stand for the party.

The Green Party are fielding someone who I suspect will attract few votes.

North East isn’t what I would describe as fertile Green territory as people have too much on their plate already.

Anyway, come election night it is going to be one very busy platform at the count.

Mr. Docherty said;

“I am standing in Glasgow North East because I believe the area needs more investment, with housing in particular having been neglected in previous years and facing serious budget cuts. As a Green MP, I would work for a Green New Deal for the people of Glasgow, using government investment to boost affordable and low-energy housing, public transport that’s both low cost and high quality, and supporting the innovation we need to deliver long-term sustainable jobs.”

This statement is pretty standard election stuff from him, no big surprises there.

As to David Doherty, he is an environmental protection graduate of Strathclyde University.

He lives in sunny Clydebank, and is Convenor of the Dunbartonshire Greens.

According to the Greens, he has a strong track record campaigning for people and the environment and writes a column on environmental issues.

I have to say that I haven’t heard of him before in any shape or form.

His outside interests include cycling, hillwalking, cinema and travel.

So; he won't be surprised when the locals tell him to ‘get on his bike’!

This little by-election is getting busy, hard to remember who isn’t standing.

No monster raving loony candidate has declared yet though, what a pity!

Yours sincerely

Rise to the challenge George.
Parliament should have more people like you.
Though I am not sure that you are in the same league as Lord Sutch or Tim Ireland in the nutter stakes.

Dear Hamish

It's Mr. Laird, not George.

Speaking of nutters, any reason you are trying to have a go at me?

I am a humble Glaswegian pottering about the place.

Yours sincerely
